| Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Open House: Contracting Opportunities with the North Central Texas Council of Governments |
| Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) and non-DBEs are invited to an open house September 1st hosted by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG).
Discussion at the open house will focus on a revised proposed overall goal for the participation of DBEs in contracts with financial assistance provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation in fiscal years 2011-2013. A summary of potential contracting opportunities in fiscal year 2011 will also be presented. Contracting opportunities are expected for engineering, planning, public relations and public outreach/education related work.
The purpose of the open house is to connect the consultant community with NCTCOG. CLICK HERE for more information.

Save the date for the Metrocrest Chamber's Transportation Luncheon at the Marriott Quorum Hotel in Addison.
The Presenting Sponsor of the luncheon is Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), and the keynote speaker will be DART President/Executive Director, Gary Thomas. The luncheon also will feature a panel discussion of current transportation infrastructure projects and legislative issues with speakers from the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the North Texas Commission and the Texas Department of Transportation.

| Redistricting Committee Public Hearings |
| The state redistricting process will be a major focus for the Texas Legislature when it meets next year during its 82nd Session. Texas House Speaker Joe Strauss has asked the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee to assume joint responsibilities with the Redistricting Committee in holding redistricting hearings across the State. All hearings are open to anyone who wishes to testify or to simply observe.

State Rep. Jim Jackson has been appointed as the Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Subcommittee Chair for the Tarrant County Subcommittee Panel hearing in Arlington and also as a member of subcommittees holding hearings in Richardson, Lubbock and South Texas. He also will participate in the Dallas panel.

| Texas Skills Development Fund |
| The Skills Development Fund is Texas' premier job-training program providing training dollars for Texas businesses and workers. Administered by the Texas Workforce Commission, success is achieved through collaboration among businesses, public Community and Technical colleges, Local Workforce Development Boards and economic development partners.
For the next two fiscal years (September 1, 2009 - August 31, 2011), TWC has $90 million in Skills Development Funds to support high quality, customized job training projects across the state. Grants for a single business may be limited to $500,000.
